We're the class that got this school going in September 2004 with a couple of teachers, some chairs and desks, and a dozen kids. Now there's another grade following behind us, and before you know it, it'll be a normal school.

But that's someone else's problem. Our problem is balancing the demands of scholarship -- ahem -- against our awesome responsibility, as Santa Cruzans, to have fun conspicuously for at least five hours every day, even if it kills us.

Santa Cruz is a legendary surf town. We've got one of the last beachfront amusement parks in California. The ocean's a few hundred yards down the road, for crying out loud. All in all, not a bad place to go to school.
